Shapes in the Sand
Once a part is designed, it must then be turned into a pattern. Draft, shrinkage and core prints must be added to the part to insure proper release, size and alignment. In many cases, additional stock is added to surfaces that will need machining after casting. Some patterns are more complicated than others, frequently requiring dozens of additional core boxes and loose pieces. Ultimately, all the pieces must fit together in perfect unison. Computer aided modeling helps tremendously in this endeavor, allowing us to lay out our designs beforehand and streamline construction.
Planning Ahead
Pattern and Core box designs require fore site and planning. NGP works hard to ensure that our tooling satisfies the needs of both our customers and the foundries that will use them. Clear communication is key, and 3D modeled tooling assists in sharing designs and ideas when a more hands on approach is needed. Any problems with layout, draft, gating, or simple logistical issues in the foundry can all be ironed out in the design process, before any construction actually begins.
Prototyping
A picture may be worth a thousand words, but holding your own design in your hands is reality. North Georgia Pattern can take your ideas from paper to plastic part in a matter or hours. If a more rugged prototype is encouraged, we can also provide a machined or cast part to fit your needs.
